Although I am a big fan of black especially when it comes to the staple purse accessory, I must admit that for this summer go with brown for that starring staple piece.
Buy canvas and leather accessories for the summer. Summer accessories should be lightweight, airy and ready for anything. This rule also goes for shoes. Always make sure to have that one magnificent starlet of a stiletto in your style repertoire for a special event, but also have couple pairs of fashionable, comfortable shoes to wear that you can switch up everyday.
The resort bohemian comfortable style is in this season. So you can rock the “have been hanging out by the pool all day” look all you want. This summer is pain free!
Like I said must have a classic canvas or leather purse this season. If you want to spice up your getup for a thrilling sophisticated look; neon colors are way to go. Flashy neon colors are a hit this summer and perfect for showing off a great tan. So get to it: pack a brown leather purse, put on some chic comfy shoes and head to the poolside!

Being fashionable does not only mean to look good, sexy and chic. Being chic also acquires carrying a certain sensibility to the common issues immediate in the world we live in. Fashion is a creative medium not only to heighten the outer beauty but also to express the inner beauty and freedom of speech. More and more so now, young designers stay in tune with what is happening in contemporary culture and addresses these issues through their designs. One of my favorite recent projects, which I absolutely support, is a creative fashion accessory: DADT dog tags.

DADT simply takes its name from the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy regarding the homophobia in the army. DADT is the official United States government policy regarding the homosexuals serving in the military. The policy prohibits any persons from discriminating but at the same time prohibits any individual from openly identifying as a homosexual or bisexual. While the policy was still being repealed in court to allow tolerance and freedom of speech to homosexuals and bisexuals serving in the army, this unjust policy regained its status as widely discussed in media after a group of soldier friends had released a remake of a Lady Gaga video, where they danced and reenacted one of her songs and were dismissed from the army once it went viral because of it. Also end of last year, the discrimination and harassment against gay culture became impossible to avoid by the masses when a series of gay teen suicides started happening as result of gay bashing and harassment in their community.
As much as the issue of prejudice against homosexuals would like to be kept quiet and not talked about, these hard-hitting recent incidents, which we got to know through the media, made it apparent that keeping silent is not a solution, it is just another form of prejudice and discrimination that needs to be addressed. So it is even more so crucial to support the freedom of speech for the gay community and make possible an equitable standard of living in whatever way possible.
Two young artists based in Brooklyn, NY started a project with these intentions in mind, shortly after the blast of news on media on gay teens suicides. One originally from Mississippi, Carr Chadwick and the other from Georgia, McDavid Moore, launched their project DADT (don’t ask don’t tell) in late November 2010 with a mission to “promote tolerance with elegance and good humor”. They describe themselves as “just a couple of bros with a dream and a scheme to make bigots more lean.”

Chadwick and Moore designed dog tags that are inscribed with the words DON’T ASK on one and DON’T TELL on the other, to be worn as necklaces. The tags come in three different options: purple lining, black lining and clear, for you to choose and color code best suited to your outfit. It’s a perfect balance of being fashionably hip whilst showing your care and support to an important cause. Chadwick and Moore’s socially aware fashion is absolutely a personal favorite.
